Writing is hard.

I started with a plan and unfortunately, within a week I didn’t follow it. I have already thought of a million excuses, however, I believe if you want to do something you will make time.

Since January the 1st, I have implemented a tracker-based habit system around exercise, meditation, reading and writing. Every day I will spend between 10–30 minutes on each individual habit and simply put a tick in a self-made spreadsheet once I have completed that task.

Strangely all of the habits come naturally to me, except for writing — why?

Structure and time

· Growing a Startup has its challenges. I’m hands-on, whilst managing, and adhering to finance/legal questions. As we add team members this will change, but it’s a great excuse to put off writing.

Unfamiliarity

· Writing a post or blog doesn’t come naturally to me. I never put in the reps until this year — it feels mentally challenging compared to other habits. Us humans are lazy and will pick the easiest option first.

How I’m going to improve

· Simplicity. The people around me know I don’t like to over-complicate any aspect of my life (forgetting to put the dishwasher on etc.).

· Each day, I’m going to set aside 10 minutes to write. If I manage 3 words, then so be it. I just want writing to become a habit — After, I will work on the quality and quantity.

Final reminder to myself: You couldn’t run a mile last year sub 9 mins. Now you completed a sub 5k within 20 minutes. Improving writing is possible.
