As I open my laptop to write this, its New Year’s Eve. I’m at the home, with my first glass of red. This marks the first time in my life, that I have decided to write.

This article will review the positives and negatives of 2020 from a personal / work perspective. I will also touch on the advice that I would give to any of my friends or family, and my plans and goals for 2021.

As you may have guessed, one of them is to “become” a writer. I don’t plan to improve; I plan to make writing a part of my identity.

“Improvements are only temporary until they become part of who you are.” — James Clear

Positives

- Baby Marsh on the way — March 2021

- 10% over an ambitious profit target as a company for a year

- Become a reader. Benefitted hugely from individuals such as James Clear, Naval Ravikant, Yuval Noah Hurari, Will Durant, Eckhert Tolle

- The Adapt Talent team is now 6 people. Culturally, we have an extremely ambitious and hardworking team.

Negatives

- Lack structure within the organization which needs to improve into 2021. Typical startup!

- COVID-19 meant we missed out on valuable time with friends and family

- Wedding was cancelled

- I LOVE to explore and travel. Restrictions made this impossible.

Advice / Key take away from 2020

- Read, read, read

- Live in the moment. Become conscious. Realize that there are two parts of you. An egotistical mind that drains you, and the person that is YOU.

- Read James Clear Atomic Habits and the Almanack of Naval Ravikant. Thank me later!!!

- Goals only work if you have a system in place. Ensure this system (habit) is easy to follow and effortless. I was terrible at running before I applied this. However, running is an easy habit to develop, I simply put on my clothes and run out of my front door.

- No one wins an argument.

- Create leverage systems to truly control your time.

- The person you were yesterday, doesn’t determine the person you are tomorrow.

Future Plans and Goals

- Double the Adapt Talent team in size for 2021

- Continue to advance our automation/AI efforts in recruitment

- Improve our marketing/branding efforts. Bi-weekly podcasts. Blog once a week, post on LinkedIn regularly and build out my personal brand.

- 1.5x our company revenue at a minimum.

- Become the best father I can possibly be.

- Run a sub 5k in 20 minutes, run a sub 10k in 42 mins and run a half marathon at 7 minutes per mile.

A wise one man once said, a good bottle of red, requires good company. On that note, I’m signing off 2021 to spend the remainder of the evening with my amazing partner, Rupert the White Cream Retriever and our little bump.

Wishing all of you, your family and loved ones a Happy New Year!
