COVID. It’s remarkable how a war between Russia and Ukraine wiped out the disease. If you didn’t question the media, please do now.

I realized the best business advice isn’t always on social media. Why does that individual have so much free time to post? Either they’ve sold their business and have time to post or intend to make money from you.

We need to stop celebrating and worshipping people because they make a lot of money or raise a bunch of money. This doesn’t automatically qualify someone as “good” — enter Sam Bankman-Fried. Countless other respected individuals have been exposed this year. The quote below sums up my thoughts perfectly.

“I’ve got more respect for a guy who goes out and starts a landscaping business where he does good work and clears $100k a year. There’s more value in that. There’s more honor in that. Celebrate that”

Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair.

A recession or a downturn is a wake-up call that a CEO needs. Every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. 2022 Q1/Q2 were amazing for Adapt, Q3/Q4 not so much. We decided to diversify into other areas that are likely to outperform our traditional markets. Now’s the time to rethink ideas, understand what truly matters to consumers/customers, run a profitable business, and innovate (or die). Some of the best companies were founded during a recession — Uber, Airbnb, Slack. Tough times don’t last, tough people do.

Keep it simple. Develop good habits that can be repeated with ease. This applies to every aspect of your life, whether dieting, exercising, family, or business.

Forgive, forget, and love. Life is too short for grudges. You never know what is around the corner. RIP Kerry — One of the good ones taken too early.

I was blessed to marry my best friend this year in June. Although I’m not complaining about the sunny beaches of San Diego, nothing beats an English barn on a summer day. It was special to celebrate this moment with close friends and family.

The American immigration system needs fixing. Two permanent residents having to parole our 1-year-old son through the Canadian/Buffalo border for “humanitarian reasons” wasn’t the ending I expected. But hey, we are here San Diego! We will miss our family and friends in the UK dearly, but the sacrifice is worth it for the lifestyle and future of our family.

No goals for this year. More so focused on demonstrating good morals and values daily.

Early days of 2023

2023 started with a bang. Atlas fell backwards into the bath and bashed his head (luckily ok) and I received a $500 ticket for running a red light.

What can I learn from this? Even at a mere age of 2, Atlas was able to elegantly recreate the Gandalf v Balrog scene (“fly, you fools”).
